Those ballrooms were awful. We used to go to these terribly thick places like Wisbech and Cambridge, and all the yokels they'd heard of these Rolling Stones, but they hadn't the foggiest idea what to expect in the way of music. To start off with, some of them just gawked. After a year or so some of these ballroom dates began to get really fucking wild.

They sent us to thick agricultural areas in Cambridgeshire. We played in Wisbech which is a completely fuckin' rural upwater place (laughs). We were sent to tatty little town halls, even ballrooms where the yokels would stomp in with mud on their boots and straw in their hair. Everything like that, even down to the potatoes. It was quite amusing because at the time we were the farthest-out band in the country as far as sound and looks were concerned.

It's Knebworth Park, you know, with beautiful grounds, and 200 000 people on that land is no sweat at all. It was nothing to do with the band's last concert. I mean, I'm surprised that so much weight was put on It's their last concert at THAT time. Cause it'd been going on before then, and it's going on now, right?
